Video case study illustrates implementation of Berner by Hitachi Solutions

For its in-house connections, the Berner Group relies on Hitachi Solution’ out-of-the-box solution xReach.intranet. Since 2017, efficient collaboration of the 8,500 staff members in 25 countries has been based on Office 365 and xReach.intranet. A new video case study illustrates how Berner is used for improving internal communications and expanding the company’s core business in retail and consulting.

Global content in six languages, up to 19 types of localization each with its own navigation, connection with the world of Office 365, and a variety of collaboration tools, social media features and integrated workflows – the Berner intranet portal is as versatile as it is complex. It has linked (Berner), (Caramba) and (BTI) which formerly were used independently by the Berner Group’s business divisions. The look and feel and many of the popular features of the preceding solutions have been preserved to a large extent. “Highly automated content maintenance and a high level of usability help us ensure that the intranet portal is accepted by staff members because it does not require any lengthy conversion and/or training and that they continue to identify with the company,” says Pedro Marcos, Project Manager at Hitachi Solution. The smart solution not only had the staff members of the Berner Group convinced but also the jury for the Intra.NET Reloaded Award in April 2018: Hitachi Solution’ project came in third in the UX Design, Personalization and Content Distribution category.

The video case study illustrates the individual features and functions of the portal and explains the project approach, the special requirements, and Hitachi Solution’ solution-oriented course of action.

Fast implementation thanks to a modular structure

Despite the demanding requirements, the experts at Nurnberg-based software house Hitachi Solution implemented the portal in only four months. The company-wide intranet and collaboration solution is based on the modular xReach software platform that also serves as the hub for connecting Office 365. With xReach, users can assemble software modules for business applications such as ERP, CRM or analytics individually and link them seamlessly via preconfigured interfaces.

To meet the extremely demanding deadline for the implementation, after a brief kick-off and concept stage the partners drove the project in short iterations in an closely coordinated and targeted manner. Hitachi Solution was responsible for all technical aspects of the project, the Berner Group’s project team was enabled to move at the user level and provide the sparring partners for the SharePoint specialists. Using weekly Q&A sessions via Skype and training videos for the Berner Group’s staff, the project team facilitated a consistent flow of information and precise insights into technical aspects and individual features of Berner at all times.

Highly scalable for future challenges

Over the next few years, the intranet will be developed into an end-to-end communication platform. One of the advantages is the high level of scalability of xReach’s design based on a ready-to-go modular approach. The most recent release launched early this year included a number of innovations. Plans include developing the platform into a social intranet by the end of the year.
